The rattan dolls furniture is made ethically with love and care in Indonesia, each piece is made by hand and patience to ensure that they will last generations of play.

I love being a mum! I am a mumma to two of the most amazing little humans. They are crazy, funny, adventurous, creative, affectionate and loud!! Mum life is heaven and I wouldn’t change a thing….. except all the plastic toys in our home.

When I was a child we played with beautiful, hand made toys. We didn’t have a playroom filled with them, but the toys we had were great quality. I am passionate about surrounding my children with toys that will aid their development, beautifully made, safe for our health and the health of our planet, long lasting (and I mean really tough!!) and aesthetically gorgeous. 

I want my children to have toys that last so well they can proudly give to their own children.

This hunt has led me to WOOD! Wooden toys encourage creativity and imagination. They have less chemicals than plastic and are recyclable! A quality wooden toy has longevity, can outlast a generation of tiny fingers and become a family heirloom.

I adore gift giving. Many people will groan at the thought. I love to select gifts that are beautiful, hand made, timeless and high quality. There is joy in selecting a gift that a child and mother will both love, and that will be different from all their other gifts. Marching Bambino…. beating the drum for children’s eco friendly musical instruments

Marching Bambino are passionate creators of environmentally friendly wooden instruments.

Music is an important part of our family time in our home. Our children love to dance, make noise, play with instruments and sing. They have found joy in this from the time they could walk.

Music helps children refine their hand and eye coordination skills, as well as to build confidence.

How to care for and clean wooden toys

As you can tell we love wooden toys! Wooden toys are safe, natural and durable. They stimulate creativity and children’s senses. But how is the best way to clean wooden toys?

  1. Keep it natural with mild dish soap, vinegar (white vinegar or apple cider works well) or other non-toxic multipurpose cleaner, diluted with water. Wood has a natural antibacterial quality so they will not be as effected by germs as plastic toys.
  2. Never soak or immerse wooden toys in water – just spray, wipe with a cloth and warm water, then air dry. Wood is porous so a soaking might cause them to swell and change shape.
  3. Drying in the sun is great as it speeds up the drying process and the sun is a natural way to kill more germs. However strong sunlight or prolonged exposure can lead to colour fade and cracking – so monitor it. You will have those little hands back with their favourite toys in no time!

Depending on the wooden item, occasional moisturising can be beneficial. Olive oil works well or another non-toxic option is beeswax polish. (Beeswax polish smells delicious!)

When considering cleaning your wooden toys remember to refer to the manufacturers care instructions for specific information on your items.

– CREATIVE PLAY – Wooden toys encourage open ended, creative play. Wooden toys are often dismissed as being basic. But a basic toy can stimulate children’s creativity, which is so important for development. Consider wooden blocks – these can become a tower, house, zoo or castle. For those with toddlers we know how incredible their imaginations are!

– GENDER NEUTRAL – Often wooden toys are a gender neutral, blank canvas.
