As you can tell we love wooden toys! Wooden toys are safe, natural and durable. They stimulate creativity and children’s senses. But how is the best way to clean wooden toys?
- Keep it natural with mild dish soap, vinegar (white vinegar or apple cider works well) or other non-toxic multipurpose cleaner, diluted with water. Wood has a natural antibacterial quality so they will not be as effected by germs as plastic toys.
- Never soak or immerse wooden toys in water – just spray, wipe with a cloth and warm water, then air dry. Wood is porous so a soaking might cause them to swell and change shape.
- Drying in the sun is great as it speeds up the drying process and the sun is a natural way to kill more germs. However strong sunlight or prolonged exposure can lead to colour fade and cracking – so monitor it. You will have those little hands back with their favourite toys in no time!
Depending on the wooden item, occasional moisturising can be beneficial. Olive oil works well or another non-toxic option is beeswax polish. (Beeswax polish smells delicious!)
When considering cleaning your wooden toys remember to refer to the manufacturers care instructions for specific information on your items.
